A scythe currently rests in the gatekeeper's room. It appeared at second.garden some time ago, after many years out of use. One day, however, it will be sharpened and put back to work.
For now, there is little need for it. The grass around the house has recently been turned over, sown and planted, and new seeds for a variety of wild grasses have been scattered. They will most likely not need cutting until next summer.
Until then, the scythe serves as a reminder of another rhythm and landscape. Perhaps, too, of a different kind of labour and bodily movement - one that belongs to the other side of summer.
